Buying A Boat - Why You Need A Boat Bill Of Sale Form When Buying A Boat

By Darren D King

Most boats are purchased through private sales. Prospective buyers of any watercraft are recommended to protect themselves with a professional boat bill of sale form. This is a fast and accepted way to provide peace of mind about your purchase.

The first thing a prospective boat buyer should do is to investigate the current market price for boats of a comparable size and power. The NADA online guide is a simple way to do this. Some other things to ask include whether the boat has ever been fined or has any outstanding fines? Has the boat ever been involved in an accident? How many hours does the motor have and is there any proof of a maintenance history? And finally does the boat have a current registration?

Buying a boat from a private seller can have some advantages too. Many times you will pick up some extras that you would have had to pay extra for with a brand new boat. Things like a marine radio, anchor, boat cover and even a trailer may all be bundled together and make a great buy.

Once you have agreed to buy the boat you should record the following details on your boat bill of sale form. Be sure to include both your own and the sellers name, the make and model of the boat, the price at which the boat was sold, the hull identification number, the date you bought the boat and lastly the signatures of both parties.

Completing a boat bill of sale form will make certain that you have documented your purchase as well as providing proof of ownership. It's an easy way to protect yourself and is essential for all aspiring boat owners.

Wed, 2 May 2007 18:05:16 +0200
The Antarctic research vessel SA Agulhas is steaming through rough seas in the Southern Ocean to rescue the crew of an Australian sailing yacht, Cowrie Dancer, after its mizzen mast broke and a crew member was washed overboard in a storm with swells of between five and eight meters. A South African crew member, Carol Erasmus, 32, of Uvongo on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, was unhurt but exhausted on Tuesday after the ordeal, which took place about 700 nautical miles south of Port Elizabeth. The two other crew members, both Australian, were injured.

Sailing Crew Wanted - Atlantic Crossing U S To Med May 2009

Fri, 24 Oct 2008 19:20:44 +0200
We live aboard our beautiful 52-foot staysail schooner Marguerite (blue-water boat, built in 1983, major re-fits in 2000 and 2007, coast-guard approved, comfortable and sea-kindly) and plan to take her to the Mediterranean in late spring next year. "We" refers to Skipper Jim, First Mate Barbara, and First Mascot Sam. Despite her classic looks, Marguerite has modern equipment (roller furling jib, staysail, and foresail, in-mast furled main, state-of-the art electronics) that make it easy for the two of us, with occasional help by the cat, to sail her. For our transatlantic crossing (May/June 2008, via Bermuda and the Azores, with first landing in Portugal), though, we would like to have two additional crew members to share the experience and the watches. We are looking for experienced sailors who can stand watch by themselves and contribute to sailing and navigation.

Concern for Americans whilst sailing around the world?

Fri, 9 Dec 2005 11:15:23 +0200
Link] I am growing increasingly concerned over the reception for Americans sailing around the world. I really don't see venturing farther than the Caribbean, or Gulf of Mexico, but am still concerned. What is your opinion of where we should and shouldn't go? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Sport Fishing Boat

By Trevor Kugler
Trevor KuglerLevel: Platinum20 year fishing addict, especially ultralight river fishing ...

We are all looking for a sport fishing boat, but sometimes the cost of a sport fishing boat can be quite excessive. If you're in a position where spending tens of thousands of dollars on a boat seems like a bit of a stretch, there are alternatives. Believe it or not there are high quality inflatable boats available to the average angler who doesn't want to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a boat. A sport fishing boat doesn't have to break the bank.

There are many types of high quality inflatable boats available to the average angler and water enthusiast. Some of these would include: runabouts, kayaks, pontoon boats, and even inflatable sail boats. They can range in size from 1 person to being large enough to comfortable carry 7 people! Before you begin thinking that an inflatable boat has to be low quality, you need to think again. Technology has come a long way and quality inflatable boats don't even seem as if they're inflatable these days. They can easily stand up to the nails of a dog and many even come with guarantees against springing leaks. A quality inflatable boat is nothing like those boats that you buy at your local super center and play with in the pool.

Many of these quality inflatable boats are actually better for getting into cramped spaces as well. They have little problem with shallow water situations and the convenience of being able to easily deflate and take your boat with you to any body of water is nice as well. Imagine being able to take your sport fishing boat anywhere that you would like and then simply blowing it up? This would sure be a lot less expensive than towing your sport fishing boat from one place to another. The gas alone can be enough to break the bank with a traditional sport fishing boat. So if your tired of the thought of breaking the bank, take a look at inflatable sport fishing boats, they could be just what the doctor ordered.

Inflatable boats will have a logo, decal or other branding on them most of the time. If not, they should all have an I.D. plate or patch identifying the boat brand, model, serial number, length, width, weight, capacities, manufacturer contact info and more. This plate is often located on the transom (back) of the boat. Contact the manufacturer using a Supplier's Index to attain information you may be looking for or may require in the future.

In Canada pleasure craft less than 12 metres in length need a sound-signalling device if they are not fitted with a sound-signalling appliance. The sound-signalling device can be a pealess whistle, compressed gas horn or an electric horn. Pleasure craft 12 metres or greater in length must have a fitted whistle.

A Personal Watercraft or Jetski could be considered generally as a one or two person motorbike for the sea. It is a small craft which is riden by its driver and/or passenger. They can accelerate quickly, move very fast through the water and have good manoevrability. This is all due to a powerful motor which drives an impellor to suck water into the jetski and then expel it through a directionally controlled nozzle. They are built to be very buoyant and therefore can be easily righted if they capsize. There are larger Jetskis available nowadays which seat three or four people. Many enthusiasts enjoy the exhilerating experience of riding them on the waves and even a beginner can learn to have alot of fun with these crafts within a very short time. There are now several established brands in the UK which range in price from about 5,000 up to over 10,000.
