Jet Ski became foremost the colloquial term for stand-ups because, in 1973, Kawasaki was responsible for a limited production of stand-up models as designed by the recognized inventor of Jet Skis, Clayton Jacobson II.[2] In 1976, Kawasaki then began mass production of the JS400-A. JS400s came with 400 cc two-stroke engines and hulls based upon the previous limited release models. It became the harbinger of the success Jet-Skis would see in the market up through the 1990s. In 1986 Kawasaki broadened the world of Jet Skis by introducing a two person model with lean-in "sport" style handling and a 650cc engine, dubbed the X-2. Then in 1989, they introduced their first two passenger "sit-down" model, the Tandem Sport (TS) with a step-through seating area.

Boat Fenders For A Sailing Yacht, cylindrical or spherical?

Thu, 20 Sep 2007 16:00:13 +0200
Is there a practical reason why some cruisers choose round over cylindrical (or vice versa) fenders for a sailing yacht? I have been told the guide for fender size is 2.5cm per 1.5m (1" per 5') of boat length for cylindrical, and 5cm per 1.5m (2" per 5') for round; is this an effective measure? Some sailors also seem to think that suspending fenders from the hand railings/wire between staunchions is poor seamanship...is there a modern reason why this may be true?

Sailing crew wanted. My boat is a 45 ft Colin Archer Classic 3 m beam and 12 tons, 50 hp Perkins engine , and i will be leaving from Trinidad to Tobago and than to Venezuela , leaving mid Nov the earliest. I am looking for crew with sailing experience only! It's a shared expenses trip and I expect from the crew to help watch-standing and anchoring duties. Crew pays his own way including travel costs to and from embarkation and debarkation points, immigration fees and shares food expenses on board. I pay boat expenses.

Cockroaches in cardboard boxes brought onto your sailing yacht?

Fri, 25 Nov 2005 18:37:18 +0200
Link] I'm aware of the cardboard/cockroach issue but haven't seen any specific reference to the cardboard rolls that foil, saran, paper towels and toilet tissue are wrapped around. Do you advise eliminating these, and if so, how do you store those items aboard your sailing yacht?.......
